An already struggling Pittsburgh Pirates offense took another blow on Thursday when Bryan Reynolds was placed on the injured list
Prior to the start of game one of the team's four-game series in Miami on Thursday the Pittsburgh Pirates made a roster move. In a move that seemed inevitable Bryan Reynolds has been placed on the injured list. To take his place on the roster, reliever Cody Bolton was recalled from Triple-A.
Losing Reynolds will be a major blow for an already struggling Pirate offense. On the season he is hitting for a .279/.350/.473 slash line with a 122 wRC+ and a 125 OPS+. Hopefully, Reynolds will be able to return from his back issue soon.
Bolton has pitched 8 MLB innings this season. In those 8 innings Bolton has allowed 15 hits, two home runs, he's walked nine, hit a batter, and struck out seven. This led to Bolton posting 12.38 ERA and a 8.53 FIP.
Most of the damage done against Bolton came in one outing. On Memorial Day, the Giants got to Bolton for 8 runs on six hits, two walks, and a home run. Bolton recorded just one out in that appearance.
At Triple-A this season Bolton has pitched 26 innings in 18 appearances. Bolton has posted a 2.77 ERA, 2.83 FIP, 7.8% walk rate, and a 25.2% strikeout rate with Triple-A Indianapolis. With the Pirate bullpen currently resembling a dumpster fire, Bolton should get plenty of opportunities to see if he can pitch better than he did with the Pirates earlier this season.
