Max Kranick pitched 3 scoreless for Indy, Malcom Nuñez hit a home run, and more Pittsburgh Pirates minor league action from Thursday night

The minor league season is close to wrapping up, but the Triple-A Indianapolis Indians continue to play. The top farm club of the Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Omaha Storm Chasers 4-1 on Thursday night to improve to 65-74 on the season.

Max Kranick started for Indy and pitched 3 hitless, scoreless innings. Kranick The righty threw 19 of 33 pitches for a strike while walking a batter and recording a strikeout. Kranick's 3 hitless innings was the start of Indy pitchers taking a no-hitter into 7th inning.

Lefty Cam Alldred followed Kranick with 2 hitless innings of his own, walking a batter while recording two strikeouts. Duane Underwood Jr. took the ball in the 6th, pitching a 1-2-3 inning along with a strikeout.

Osvaldo Bido took over in the 7th inning with the Indians leading 2-0. After issuing a lead off walk, Bido allowed Omaha's first hit of the night and then issued another walk to load the bases with no one out. Bido would respond in a big way striking out the next three batters to strand the bases loaded with the Indians still lead 2-0.

Dauri Moreta finished the game off for Indy. Moreta allowed a run in the 8th inning before pitching a scoreless 9th inning. The run he allowed came on a solo home run, the lone hit Moreta allowed, to go with a walk and three strikeouts.

Chris Owings had a big night for the Indy offense going 3-for-4 with his 15th home run of the season, a walk, two runs scored, and two RBIs. Malcom Nuñez was 2-for-4 with a solo home run, Canaan Smith-Njigba was 3-for-5 with a double and a RBI, and Domingo Leyba was 1-for-3 with a walk.

Disastrous 5th inning sinks Altoona

Thursday night the Double-A Altoona Curve were looking to win their 8th game in a row, and get back to .500 on the season. Well, due to a disastrous 5th inning this would not be the case. After allowing 6 runs in the 5th inning, the Curve fell to the Akron RubberDucks 7-0. This loss drops the Curve to 65-67 on the season.

Lefty Nick Dombkowski started for the Curve and fired 4 scoreless innings. Then in the 5th inning, Dombkowski got into trouble. Trouble that was continued by Jack Carey. The two combined to allow 6 runs on four hits, three walks, and a home run in the inning.

Tyler Samaniego pitched the 6th inning, allowing a run on a hit and a walk. Noe Toribio pitched 2 scoreless innings, allowing a hit and striking out two RubberDuck batters.

Prior to the 9th inning, the Curve had yet to score a run. Jacob Gonzalez singled with one out in the 9th and scored on an Eli Wilson double. That would be it for Altoona runs. The only other hits Altoona had were a single by Jackson Glenn and an Andres Alvarez double.
