Disastrous 5th inning sinks Altoona
Thursday night the Double-A Altoona Curve were looking to win their 8th game in a row, and get back to .500 on the season. Well, due to a disastrous 5th inning this would not be the case. After allowing 6 runs in the 5th inning, the Curve fell to the Akron RubberDucks 7-0. This loss drops the Curve to 65-67 on the season.
Lefty Nick Dombkowski started for the Curve and fired 4 scoreless innings. Then in the 5th inning, Dombkowski got into trouble. Trouble that was continued by Jack Carey. The two combined to allow 6 runs on four hits, three walks, and a home run in the inning.
Tyler Samaniego pitched the 6th inning, allowing a run on a hit and a walk. Noe Toribio pitched 2 scoreless innings, allowing a hit and striking out two RubberDuck batters.
Prior to the 9th inning, the Curve had yet to score a run. Jacob Gonzalez singled with one out in the 9th and scored on an Eli Wilson double. That would be it for Altoona runs. The only other hits Altoona had were a single by Jackson Glenn and an Andres Alvarez double.
