Colin Selby keeps pitching well, home runs by Jase Bowen and Sammy Siani, and more Pittsburgh Pirates minor league action

Strong pitching carried Triple-A Indianapolis to a 3-1 victory over the St. Paul Saints on Saturday night. With the win, the top farm club of the Pittsburgh Pirates is now 17-20 on the season.

Lefty Kent Emanuel started for Indy and pitched 4 innings. Emanuel allowed a run on four hits, a walk, and four strikeouts. The run that he allowed came on a solo home run. This was a much needed strong outing for Emanuel who has struggled to the tune of an 8.15 ERA this season.

Cody Bolton followed Emanuel. While Bolton allowed a pair of hits and walked a batter, he still pitched a scoreless 5th inning. Eli Villalobos pitched a scoreless 6th inning, Angel Perdomo then walked a pair and struck out two in 2 scoreless innings pitched.

Colin Selby got the ball in the 9th and slammed the door shut. Selby struck out a pair in a 1-2-3 9th inning striking out a pair. Sleby now owns a 3.00 ERA and a 9:19 BB:K ratio in 15 innings pitched this season.

Nick Gonzales went 1-for-4 with a walk and a run scored at the top of the Indy lineup. Endy Rodriguez was 1-for-2 with a walk, Cal Mitchell was 1-for-2 with a walk, a run scored, and a RBI. Mark Mathais served as designated hitter and went 1-for-3 with a RBI.

Altoona hangs on for 1-run victory

They allowed a run in the 8th inning that made them sweat it out some, but the Double-A Altoona Curve defeated the Akron RubberDucks 5-4 on Saturday night. With the win, the Curve are now 15-15 on the season.

Liover Peguero went 1-for-5 with a RBI, left fielder Fabricio Macias was also 1-for-5. Henry Davis started at catcher and actually looked human, going just 1-for-4 with a walk. He still has an Eastern League best 1.126 OPS.

Lolo Sanchez was 1-for-4 with a solo home run, his 3rd of the season. Andres Alvarez was 2-for-4 with a RBI and two runs scored. Matt Fraizer was 3-for-4 with three doubles, he drove in a pair and scored a run.

Kyle Nicolas started for the Curve and pitched 5 strong innings. He allowed a run on six hits, three walks, and five strikeouts. Brad Case allowed 2 runs on two hits and a walk in 2/3 of an inning pitched. Tahnaj Thomas allowed a run in 2 innings pitched while striking out a pair.

Oliver Garcia pitched 1/3 of an inning. Tyler Samaniego pitched a scoreless 9th inning for his 2nd save of the season, allowing a hit and issuing a walk.

Loss for High-A Greensboro

Saturday night the High-A Greensboro Grasshoppers fell to the Jersey Shore BlueClaws 9-5. With the loss, the Grasshoppers are now 20-12 on the season. Despite the loss, the Grasshoppers still have the best record in the Pirate farm system.

Starting at second base Tsung-Che Cheng went 1-for-4 with a double and a walk at the top of Greensboro's lineup. Tres Gonzalez and Mike Jarvis were both 1-for-5, Gonzales scored a run and Jarvis drove in a run.

Jase Bowen and Sammy Siani both hit home runs for the Grasshoppers. It was the 7th long ball of the season for Bowen and the 4th for Siani. Third baseman Ernny Ordonez went 2-for-4.

Bubba Chandler started for Greensboro and got roughed up. Chandler allowed 6 runs on six hits, two walks, a home run, and three strikeouts. Michell Milian followed Chandler, allowing 2 runs o nthree hits and three walks in 1.1 innings pitched.

Mitchell Miller allowed run in 2 innings pitched. Oliver Mateo walked three and struck out a pair in a scoreless inning pitched. Jaycob Deese then struck out a pair in 2 scoreless innings pitched.

Bradenton doubles up Lakeland

Low-A Bradenton doubled up the Lakeland Flying Tigers 4-2 on Saturday night. With the win, the Marauders are now 19-13 this season.

J.P. Massey started for Bradenton and continued to pitch well. In 5 scoreless innings pitched Massey allowed two hits, walked a pair, and struck out nine. Massey now owns a 3.47 ERA in 23.1 innings pitched this season.

Luis Peralta pitched 3 innings. Peralta allowed 2 runs, 1 earned, on two hits, a walk, and six strikeouts. Elijah Birdsong pitched hte 9th inning. Birdsong fired a 1-2-3 inning with a pair of strikeouts.

Serving as the team's designated hitter, Shalin Polanco was 1-for-3 with a walk and a solo home run. This gives Polanco 4 home runs this season. Enmanuel Terrero was 1-for-2 with a run score, RBI, and two walks.

Alexander Mojica hit his 3rd home run of the season. This was his lone hit of the night, as he went 1-for-3 with a walk, a run scored, and two RBI.
