Jared Jones shoved for Triple-A Indy on Friday night
Jared Jones shoved on Friday night as Triple-A Indy defeated the Omaha Storm Chasers
The top farm club of the Pittsburgh Pirates - the Triple-A Indianapolis Indians - were victorious on Friday night. Following a 3-1 victory over the Omaha Storm Chasers the Indians are now 66-74 on the season.
Jared Jones started for the Indians on Friday night and was dominant. This was a start in which Jones showed why he is one of the top pitching prospects in the Pirate farm system, and a top 100 pithcing prospect in basbeall.
Jones pitched 6 scoreless inning. He allowed just one hit, walked a batter, and struck out eight. Jones also threw 55 of 83 pitches for a strike. This outing lowered his ERA with Indy to 4.77 in 77.1 innings across 14 starts.
This was the best start at the Triple-A level for Jones. It was the third time that he pitched 6 innings since being promoted to Indianapolis. However, in his first two 6 inning starts he allowed 1 run and 2 runs, respectively.
Jones has taken his lumps at the Triple-A level, but him ending the season on a high note is exactly what the Pirates want to see. Indy has eight games remaining so Jones may get another start yet. If he does, hopefully, that start will also be a strong one that builds off of Friday night's start.
Following Jones, Cody Bolton pitched 2 innings for Indy. Bolton allowed a run on a hit, two walks, and three strikeouts. Travis MacGregor would then close htings out for the Indians. MacGregor struck a batter out while pitching a 1-2-3 9th inning.
At the top of the Indy lineup Chris Owings was 0-for-3 with a walk and a RBI. Canaan Smith-Njigba was 1-for-3 with a walk, Malcom Nuñez was 1-for-4, and Grant Koch was 1-for-2 with a walk. Matt Gorksi had the big hit, hitting his 2nd Triple-A home run.
