Pittsburgh Pirates Prospects: Multi-Hit Game for Yordany De Los Santos
Recapping Monday's action for the FCL Pirates
Yordany De Los Santos got on base four times and more from Monday's action for the Pittsburgh Pirates in the Florida Complex League
Monday afternoon the FCL Pirates defeated the FCL Rays by a score of 7-6. With the win, the Florida Complex League affilaite of the Pittsburgh Pirates now owns a record of 9-2 on the season.
Leading the way for the Pirate offense was shortstop Yordany De Los Santos. De Los Santos went 2-for-3 with a pair of walks and he scored a run. In 41 plate appearances in the FCL this season De Los Santos is now hitting for a .333/.390/.440 slash line.
The 18-year-old De Los Santos is one of the most talented players in the entire FCL. Few players in the FCL, in any organization not just the Pirates, have the ceiling that De Los Santos does. That is what made him a prized member of Pittsburgh's 2021-2022 international free agent class.
Playing both second and third base, Javier Rivas went 2-for-5 with a RBI and a run scored. Highly thought of catching prospect Axiel Plaz served as the designated hitter and went 0-for-4, but did score a run. Infielder Jeral Toledo doubled in his lone at-bat.
From the 2021 draft class, Lonnie White Jr. started in center field and went 1-for-4 with a walk, a run scored, and a RBI. Braylon Bishop pinch hit in the 6th inning and remained in the game to play right field. Bishop went 1-for-1 with a walk, run scored, and a RBI.
Jose Garces started for the Pirates, allowing 4 runs on five hits, two walks, and no strikeouts in 3 innings pitched. Antwone Kelly allowed 2 runs on four hits, three walks, and three strikeouts in 2.1 innings pitched. Keneth Quintanilla walked a batter and recorded a strikeout while getting the final two outs of the 6th inning.
Cristopher Cruz, one of the organization's top pitching additions in recent years via international free agency, struck a batter out in a 1-2-3 7th inning. This was Cruz's first appearance of the season after beginning the year on the minor league injured list. Eliecer Romero retired the final six Rays batters of the game while recording a strikeout on his way to his 1st save of the season.
