Pittsburgh Pirates Prospects: Strong Starts From Thomas Harrington & Aaron Shortridge, More

Strong pitching performance from Thomas Harrington, Jared Jones, and Aaron Shortridge, more in today's Pittsburgh Pirates minor league roundup

Triple-A Indianapolis picked up a 1-run victory on Friday night. The Indians defeated the Memphis Redbirds by a score of 2-1. With the win, the top farm club of the Pittsburgh Pirates is now 40-44 this season.

J.C. Flowers allowed a hit and issued a walk while pitching a scoreless 1st inning. Jared Jones followed with 4 innings, allowing a run on a hit, two walks, and seven strikeouts. Jones has now issued 8 walks while striking out 24 in 19.1 innings pitched with Indy this season.

Jose Hernandez struck a batter out in a scoreless 6th inning as part of his rehab assignment. Andre Jackson walked a batter and struck out a pair in 2 scoreless innings pitched. Colin Selby pitched the 9th, retiring all three batters he faced with two strikeouts to pick up his 4th save of the season.

Alika Williams started at second base going 2-for-4 with a double, a run scored, and a RBI. Miguel Andújar and Ryan Vilade were both 2-for-4, with Vilade driving in a run. Liover Peguero went 1-for-3 with a walk.

Altoona hangs on for a 1-run victory

The Erie Seawolves scored a combined 5 runs between the 8th and 9th inning. Despite this, the Double-A Altoona Curve were able to hang on for an 8-7 victory. This victory improves the Curve to 38-40 on the season.

Aaron Shortridge started for Altoona. Shortridge pitched 7 strong innings, allowing 2 runs on four hits, a walk, and five strikeouts. Shortridge threw 57 of 80 pitches strikes, inducing both six ground ball and fly ball outs.

Cam Junker pitched the 8th inning allowing 3 runs on four hits, no walks, and two strikeouts. Although, only 2 of his runs were earned due to a Jackson Glenn throwing error. Lefty Braeden Ogle issued two walks and uncorked a wild pitch in the 9th inning, this led to him allowing 2 runs despite not allowing a hit. Ogle still closed things out for the Curve victory.

Lolo Sanchez bat lead off for the Curve going 2-for-4 with a walk and a run scored. Glenn was 3-for-4 with a double, walk, RBI, and two runs scored. Tsung-Che Cheng had his best game yet at the Double-A level going 2-for-4 with a triple, run scored, and a RBI.

Matt Fraizer was 3-for-4 with a double, walk, RBI, and two runs scored. Cahvez Young and Claudio Finol each had multi-hit games as well. Jacob Gonzalez also had two hits, including a double and two RBI.

Walk off extra innings victory for Greensboro

It took 10 innings, but the High-A Greensboro Grasshoppers were victorious on Friday night. A 2-run bottom of the 10th inning powered the Grasshoppers to a 5-4 walk off victory against the Aberdeen IronBirds, improving to 39-38 on the season.

After the IronBirds scored a run in the top half of the inning the Grasshoppers went into the bottom of the 10th trailing 4-3. Ernny Ordonez walked to start the inning. Then with two outs in the inning, Luke Brown singled home both Ordonez and Jase Bowen for the walk off victory.

Designated hitter Tres Gonzalez went 3-for-5 with his 4th home run of the season at the top of the Grasshopper lineup. Making a rehab start, Travis Swaggerty went 1-for-3 with a triple, two walks, and a run scored.

Catcher Eli Wilson was 1-for-3 with a double and a walk. Brown was 2-for-5 with a run scored and three RBI to go with his walk off hit. Bowen was 1-for-5 with a run scored and a RBI.

Thomas Harrington started for Greensboro and pitched 6 strong. Harrington allowed a run on five hits, two walks, and five strikeouts in 6 innings pitched, lowering his ERA on the season to 3.98. Michell Miliano allowed 2 runs in 2 innings pitched. Dante Mendoza also pitched 2 innings, striking out four batters and allowing the automatic runner in the 10th inning to score.

Bradenton gets to double digit games over .500

Friday night the Low-A Bradenton Marauders got to 10 games over .500 on the season. Following a 9-5 victory over the Daytona Tortugas, the Marauders are now 44-34 on the season.

Enmanuel Terrero was 0-for-3 at the top of the Bradenton lineup, but drew a pair of walks and scored two runs. Designated hitter Josiah Sightler went 4-for-4 with a walk, a double, his 3rd home run of the season, two RBI, and two runs scored.

Termarr Johnson was 0-for-2 with two walks and a RBI. Shalin Polanco was 0-for-4 with a walk and a RBI, and Alenxader Mojica was 1-for-3 with a double, two walks, and two runs scored. Catcher Geovanny Plancahrt also had two hits and two RBI.

All 5 Daytona runs came in the 4th inning. This inning made an otherwise strong start for Derek Diamond look worse than it was. Diamond still pitched 6 innings, allowing 5 runs on seven hits, two walks, a home run, and five strikeouts. Outside of the 4th inning, Diamond allowed three hits and walked just one.

Brandan Bidois pitched the 7th inning. He allowed a hit but struck out the side in a scoreless inning pitched. Yoldin De La Paz struck a batter out in a 1-2-3 8th inning. De LA Paz allowed a hit in the 9th but still posted a zero to finish off 2 scoreless innings pitched.
