In Wednesday's Arizona Fall League action, the Salt River Rafters were defeated by the Peoria Javelinas. With the loss, the Rafters are now 9-6 on the season. While no Pittsburgh Pirates pitching prospects pitched in the game, a trio of Pirate position player prospects were in the starting lineup.
Jase Bowen started in left field and bat leadoff for the Rafters. Through 15 games, Bowen has been one of the best hitters for the Rafters and in the AFL. Wednesday night, however, Bowen went just 1-for-5 with a run scored, but he is still hitting .375 with a 1.069 OPS thus far in the AFL.
Slugging Pirate prospect Jack Brannigan started at shortstop for the Rafters. Brannigan went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts, continuing his up-and-down performance in the AFL. Following a slow start, Brannigan swung a hot bat last week. Brannigan is now struggling a bit again, seeing his OPS dip to .658.
Carter Bins started behind the dish for the Rafters. The Pirate catching prospect had a big day at the plate going 3-for-4 with a double, a run scored, and a RBI. In 21 plate appearances in the AFL, Bins is now hitting a healthy .316 with a 1.065 OPS.
