The Greensboro Grasshoppers have a 14-8 record to start off the 2024 season. A big reason for their early success has been two hitters in their lineup. Former top draft pick Sammy Siani and 2023 11th-round pick Charles McAdoo are both off to hot starts to the season. Let's take a look at the hot starts by these two prospects.

Sammy Siani is an outfielder who was selected by the Pirates with the 37th overall pick in the 2019 MLB Draft. Since being drafted by the Pirates, Siani has struggled at the plate, which has kept him in Greensboro for a third season. In two seasons with Greensboro, Siani had a .217 batting average with 16 home runs and 76 runs batted in. He also had a 39.7 percent strikeout rate and 41 stolen bases. This has not been good for the former top pick, but in 2024, Siani looks to have changed things.

In 59 at-bats, Siani has a .339 batting average with four home runs and 11 runs batted in. He also has an OPS of 1.022, which includes an on-base percentage of .412 and a slugging percentage of .610. His strikeout rate has dropped tremendously to 13.2 percent and he has a very impressive wRC+ of 187. This is a small sample size, but the former top prospect is finally beginning to break out. He needs to show some more consistency, but his hot start should not be ignored.

Charles McAdoo is another outfielder who is off to a hot start in Greensboro. McAdoo was the Pirates 11th round selection in the 2023 MLB Draft out of San Jose State. After being drafted, McAdoo quickly got started in Bradenton and had a great first year. In 28 games played, he had a batting average of .302 with five home runs and 24 runs batted in. He also had an OPS of .922, which includes an on-base percentage of .412 and a slugging percentage of .510. He added a 19.3 percent strikeout rate and a wRC+ of 151.

McAdoo had a very solid first year with Bradenton and that earned him a spot in Greensboro to begin the 2024 season. He picked up right where he left off as he has a .296 batting average with four home runs and 14 runs batted in. He also has an OPS of .921, which includes an on-base percentage of .386 and a slugging percentage of .535. His strikeout rate sits at 20.5 percent, and his wRC+ is also at an incredible 162. For an 11th-round pick, McAdoo looks to be turning into a very solid prospect in a system that sorely needs more bats.

These young prospects are both off to great starts to the season. If they keep it up, they will get a promotion to Altoona. Keep an eye out for these two unranked prospects.
