3-Way Trade for Joe Musgrove

When this trade was initially completed, most fans viewed it as another player-dumping move. However, over time, it has evolved into a strong trade for the Pirates.

The Pirates acquired Endy Rodriguez and David Bednar, among other players, in exchange for Joe Musgrove. Shortly after the trade, Joe Musgrove achieved the Padres' first-ever no-hitter and has since become one of their top pitchers, securing a 5-year, $100 million contract with the team. While it seemed unlikely that the Pirates could afford to retain him, in return, they received eDavid Bednar, who has risen as one of the best closers in baseball.

Bednar has recorded 52 saves with an impressive career ERA of 2.31 during his time with the Pirates he has earned two All-Star selections. Additionally, Rodriguez has emerged as a potential future All-Star. He consistently makes solid contact and exhibits excellent field awareness, particularly in throwing out base runners, showcasing one of the best arms among catchers in MLB.
