According to Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post Gazette, the Pittsburgh Pirates plan to select Josh Palacios from Triple-A Indianapolis

Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post Gazette reported earlier this morning that the Pittsburgh Pirates plan on selecting Josh Palacios from Triple-A Indianapolis, while also designating Chase De Jong for assignment. Palacios was selected in the minor league portion of last winter's Rule 5 Draft.

Palacios has been extremely good in the minor leagues in 2023. He played in just 8 games in Altoona before getting called up to Indianapolis and has been outstanding since the promotion. With Indy, Palacios has a slash line of .434/.500/.774 with an OPS of 1.274.

He also has shown some power as well. He has 4 home runs, 1 triple, and 6 doubles on the season. The Pirates are in desperate need for more offense and Palacios might be able to help contribute in that category.

Palacios does have some major league experience as well. He played in 13 games with the Toronto Blue Jays back in 2021. He slashed .200/.293/.200 with 11 strike outs. He also played 29 games for the Washington Nationals in 2022 where he slashed .213/.245/.232 with 2 doubles. These numbers are not good, but maybe he has turned a corner this season and will show some improvement with the Pirates in 2023.
