Termarr Johnson has been lighting up Double-A pitching this season and is very close to a promotion. On Sunday, Johnson continued his hot stretch with another monster home run that went 424 feet. Off the bat, Johnson knew it was crushed, and as it crashed into the roller coaster behind the right field fence in Altoona, he let everyone know where it went.
Johnson belted his sixth homer of the season in the bottom of the sixth off of Red Sox prospect Yordanny Monegro. It was a full-count curveball that he clobbered off the big roller coaster in right field.
Right off the bat, he said some words back to the pitcher, smacked himself on the helmet, and then flexed towards the dugout while taking a slow trot around the bases.
That excitement was absolutely electric to watch, and that energy is something that the dugout needs in Pittsburgh.
Pirates prospect Termarr Johnson displays unreal power and energy with monster home run that lands in Altoona roller coaster.
Johnson has been an exciting prospect to watch in the organization these past couple of seasons. At 20 years old, he is showing tools that could earn him a spot in Pittsburgh this fall. He is walking at a very high 14% rate and striking out at just an 18.1% clip. That plate discipline pairs very well with his power and speed. His OPS is up to .778 with a 127 wRC+ and he has stolen nine bases.
All of these tools would fit in perfectly in the Pittsburgh lineup eventually. That time could be approaching soon, as a solid stint in Indianapolis would lead him to the big leagues. Then he could emerge as the star second baseman we thought he was out of the 2022 MLB Draft and could push Nick Gonzales over to shortstop.
All this talent will be great to add to the big league roster, and his energy is an underrated plus. Traits like this haven't exactly been displayed in Pittsburgh recently, and this is the type of stuff that can spark a team. Johnson is a very exciting prospect that the Pirates should be looking forward to.
