Pittsburgh Pirates Minor League Minute – November 23rd

In this edition of the Pittsburgh Pirates Minor League Minute, we will give you a quick look at how players from the Pirates system are doing in Winter Ball.

Winter League Update

We give you a quick look at the players from the Pirates organization that are playing in the Dominican Winter League, Venezuela Winter League and Mexico Winter League.

The Dominican League is underway and the Pittsburgh Pirates are represented on several teams:

INF Alen Hanson is playing for Toros del Este. Hanson is now batting .300 with twenty-one hits, including a home run, two RBIs, three walks and struck out nine times. He also has three stolen bases.

OF Mel Rojas Jr is playing for Tigres del Licey. Rojas is now batting .250 with twenty hits, including six home runs, sixteen RBIs, eleven walks and twenty-one strikeouts. He also has two stolen bases.

OF Willy Garcia and INF Edwin Espinal are playing for Aguilas Cibaenas. Garcia is now batting .159 with seven hits, four RBIs, two walks and fourteen strikeouts. Espinal is now batting .214 with three hits, including a home run, one RBI and three strikeouts.

SS Pedro Florimon is playing for Estrellas de Oriente. In twelve games, Florimon is batting .174 with eight hits, one RBI, three walks and twenty strikeouts.

In the Venezuela League the Pirates have several players:

INF/OF Elvis Escobar and RHP Jhondaniel Medina are playing for Cardenales de Lara. Escobar has played in fourteen games and is batting .400 with four hits including two doubles. Medina has appeared in seven games and has a 1.29 ERA. He has thrown seven innings and given up three runs, seven walks and three strikeouts.

OF Gorkys Hernandez is playing for Caribes de Anzoategui. Gorkys has been playing well this winter. He has appeared in thirty-eight games and is currently batting .303. He has forty-three hits, including seven doubles and a triple, twelve RBIs, nineteen walks and twenty-three strikeouts.

INF Jose Osuna is playing for Bravos de Margarita. Osuna has appeared in thirty-seven games and is batting .338. He has forty-four hits, including eight doubles and three home runs, nineteen RBIs, fifteen walks and twenty-one strikeouts.

RHP Julio Vivas are playing for Aguilas de Zulia. Jose hasn’t played since November twelfth. He had appeared in eleven games and currently holds a 6.10 ERA.

In the Mexican League, the Pirates have several players:

RHP Luis Heredia and 1B Carlos Munoz are playing for Venados de Mazatlan. Heredia has appeared in ten games now, has a 5.54 ERA and a 2-0 record. Carlos Munoz is carrying his strong regular season over to Winter Ball. He is batting .303 in thirty-five games. Munoz has thirty-three hits including six doubles, two triples and four home runs. He also has twenty RBIs, sixteen walks and twenty-one strikeouts.
