Pittsburgh Pirates Minor League Minute – October 26th

In this edition of the Pittsburgh Pirates Minor League Minute, we will give you a look at a few more postseason awards, give you a quick look at Winter and Fall Ball and a few notable links that may be of interest to you.

2015 MiLBY Voting

Please take a few minutes to vote for the 2015 MiLBY’s. The Pittsburgh Pirates are up for the Best Farm SystemTyler Glasnow is up for the Best Starting Pitcher award. In the Picture of the Year category, You will find a picture of Elias Diaz dumping Ice on Josh Bell after he hit a walk off single in his Indianapolis Indian debut. Award Winners will be announced from October 28th to November 5th.

Moves

RHP Deolis Guerra was sent outright from the Pittsburgh Pirates to the Indianapolis Indians.

RHP Wilfredo Boscan and OF Gorkys Hernandez have both elected free agency.

The Pirates and Marlins completed a trade on Saturday. Trevor Williams was the Marlins fifth ranked prospect.

Fall/Winter League Update

We give you a quick look at the players from the Pirates organization that are playing in the Arizona Fall League, Dominican Winter League, Venezuela Winter League and Mexico Winter League.

The Arizona Fall League is in full swing. The players from the Pittsburgh Pirates farm system will be playing for the Glendale Desert Dogs. These players will join other minor league players from the Chicago White Sox, Houston Astros, Los Angeles Dodgers and Philadelphia Phillies. The Pitchers from the Pirates organization on the roster are LHP Steven Brault from the Altoona Curve, LHP Cody Dickson from the Bradenton Marauders, RHP Tyler Eppler from the Altoona Curve and RHP Brett McKinney of the Altoona Curve. The only catcher from the Pirates organization is Reese McGuire from the Bradenton Marauders. The only infielder is Adam Frazier of the Altoona Curve. The only outfielder is Austin Meadows. Meadows spent time with the Bradenton Maruaders and the Altoona Curve this past season.

Just a few notable Pirates from the Arizona Fall League so far:

INF Adam Frazier  added another triple, he now has three triples and three RBIs. He is currently batting .375 with six hits in only 4 games.

C Reese McGuire is now batting .286 with two doubles in four games.

OF Austin Meadows has played in six games now. This past week he picked up his first three hits, a home run, a triple and a single. He now has five RBIs.

LHP Steven Brault made his first start and it was a no decision. He went 2.2 innings and allowed four runs on three hits, two walks and three strikeouts.

LHP Cody Dickson picked up a win over the past week despite giving up a solo home run during his one inning of work. He now has three appearances and a 3.00 ERA.

RHP Tyler Eppler pitched 2.1 innings in relief last week and allowed one run on two hits.

RHP Brett McKinney had two appearances. He went one inning and allowed a hit, a walk and stuck out two on Wednesday. On Saturday, He went one inning and walked one.

The Dominican League is just getting underway and the Pittsburgh Pirates are represented on several teams:

OF Andrew Lambo is playing for Gigantes del Cibao. He has played in three games now and is still looking for his first hit. He has struck out four times.

INF Alen Hanson is playing for Toros del Este. Hanson saw action in four games this past week. He had four hits and one RBI. He is now batting .182.

OF Mel Rojas Jr is playing for Tigres del Licey. Rojas has played in five games and is now batting .333 with seven hits, four RBIs and four strikeouts.

OF Willy Garcia and INF Edwin Espinal are playing for Aguilas Cibaenas. Espinal has only played in one game and didn’t have an at bat. Garcia played in four games this past week and had three hits and struck out six times.

SS Gustavo Nunez is playing for Estrellas de Oriente. Nunez has played in six games and has seven hits, three RBIs, three walks and five strikeouts.

C Wilkin Castillo is playing for Leones del Escogido. He has six  at bats in three games and is looking for his first hit still.

In the Venezuela League the Pirates have several players:

INF/OF Elvis Escobar and RHP Jhondaniel Medina are playing for Cardenales de Lara. Escobar is batting .143 after nine games with just one hit. Medina has seen action in three games and suffered one loss.

LHP Zack Dodson and OF Gorkys Hernandez are playing for Caribes de Anzoategui. Hernandez is batting .283 with seventeen hits, two RBIs, four walks and seven strikeouts after fifteen games. Dodson lost his last outing and is now 2-1 with a 4.61 ERA after 13.2 innings of work.

Catcher Francisco Diaz, INF Jose Osuna and OF Junior Sosa are playing for Bravos de Margarita. Diaz is looking for his first hit but only has four at bats in four games so far. Osuna is batting .348 with sixteen hits, including four doubles and a home run, after thirteen games. Sosa had a three hit day on Sunday and raised his batting average to .240 after nine game. Sosa now has six hits, five strikeouts and two RBIs.

RHP A.J. Morris is playing for Navegantes del Magallanes. Morris has seen action in four games. Morris threw 2.2 innings and allowed two hits and three walks. He now has an 0-1 record with a 3.18 ERA.

RHP Julio Vivas are playing for Aguilas de Zulia. Vivas has seen action in six games and currently has a 4.26 ERA. Vivas gave up three runs on four hits during his first outing this past week. His second outing was 0.2 innings and he struck out one batter.

In the Mexican League, the Pirates have several players:

Catcher Sebastian Valle is playing for Caneros de los Mochis. Valle is batting .276 with eight hits, three RBIs, one walk and five strikeouts after seven games.

RHP Felipe Gonzalez, RHP Luis Heredia, 1B Carlos Munoz and OF Harold Ramirez  are playing for Venados de Mazatlan. Munoz has thirteen hits, including two home runs, two triples, three doubles, ten walks and eight strikeouts after thirteen games. Munoz is now batting .351. Ramirez is batting .191, has a home run and eleven strikeouts after twelve games. Gonzalez has seen action in eight games and has a 3.38 ERA after 5.1 innings of work. Heredia has five appearances and boasts a 2.35 ERA after 7.2 innings of work. Heredia picked up a win on Sunday with 2.2 innings of work. Heredia struck out one, walked three and allowed one run on two hits.

3B Dan Gamache is playing for Naranjeros de Hermosillo. He didnt see any action this week. He only has ten at bats in three games.
