In this edition of the Pittsburgh Pirates Minor League Minute, we will give you a quick look at the MiLBY Award winner and at how players from the Pirates system are doing in Winter and Fall Ball.
2015 MiLBY Awards
The results for the MiLBY Awards have been trickling out daily. The Pittsburgh Pirates Organization has taken home one award! In the Picture of the Year category, You will find a picture of Elias Diaz dumping Ice on Josh Bell after he hit a walk off single in his Indianapolis Indian debut. This picture has been declared the winner today!
Fall/Winter League Update
We give you a quick look at the players from the Pirates organization that are playing in the Arizona Fall League, Dominican Winter League, Venezuela Winter League and Mexico Winter League.
The Arizona Fall League is in full swing. The players from the Pittsburgh Pirates farm system will be playing for the Glendale Desert Dogs. These players will join other minor league players from the Chicago White Sox, Houston Astros, Los Angeles Dodgers and Philadelphia Phillies. The Pitchers from the Pirates organization on the roster are LHP Steven Brault from the Altoona Curve, LHP Cody Dickson from the Bradenton Marauders, RHP Tyler Eppler from the Altoona Curve and RHP Brett McKinney of the Altoona Curve. The only catcher from the Pirates organization is Reese McGuire from the Bradenton Marauders. The only infielder is Adam Frazier of the Altoona Curve. The only outfielder is Austin Meadows. Meadows spent time with the Bradenton Maruaders and the Altoona Curve this past season. RHP Trevor Williams was recently acquired by the Pirates via trade and is playing as well.
Just a few notable Pirates from the Arizona Fall League so far:
INF Adam Frazier had twelve at bats in the past week. He had three hits, an RBI, a walk and struck out three times. His average is now .321. It was reported that Frazier has left the Arizona Fall League to join Team USA.
C Reese McGuire raised his average to .357 after seeing action in four games. McGuire added six hits including two doubles and a triple. He also had an RBI, walk and a strikeout. McGuire was named to the AFL Fall Stars West Team. The AFL Fall Star game will be played on November 7th at 8pm on MLB Network and MLB.com
OF Austin Meadows played in five games over the past week. Meadows is now batting .133. In twenty-one at bats, he had three hits, including a double and one RBI. Meadows was also named to the AFL Fall Stars West Team. The AFL Fall Star game will be played on November 7th at 8pm on MLB Network and MLB.com
LHP Steven Brault made his second start and went three innings. Brault allowed one run on six hits, one walk and two strikeouts.
LHP Cody Dickson had two appearances in the past week. In his first appearance he went 0.2 innings and allowed four runs on two hits and two walks. He rebounded in his second outing by going one inning and allowing just one hit and one walk.
RHP Tyler Eppler had two appearances in the past week. In his first outing, Eppler went 2.0 innings and allowed four runs on five hits and a walk. His next outing was an improvement. he went two innings and allowed one run on three hits.
RHP Brett McKinney had two appearances in the past week. In his first outing, he went one inning and allowed just one hit. In his second outing, he went one inning and gave up a home run and struck out one.
RHP Trevor Williams has had three appearances since being acquired. He has struck out three in 3.1 innings of work and hasn’t allowed a hit or run.
The Dominican League is just getting underway and the Pittsburgh Pirates are represented on several teams:
OF Andrew Lambo is playing for Gigantes del Cibao. He has played in seven games in the past week. He had three hits including a home run and three RBIs.
INF Alen Hanson is playing for Toros del Este. Hanson saw action in six games this past week. He had seven hits and is now batting .245.
OF Mel Rojas Jr is playing for Tigres del Licey. Rojas has played in six games in the past week and is now batting .256. He added four hits, including three home runs, four RBIs, four walks and seven strikeouts.
OF Willy Garcia and INF Edwin Espinal are playing for Aguilas Cibaenas. Espinal played in six games and had thirteen at bats. Espinal had three hits, including a home run, and is now batting .231. Garcia played in three games this past week and had a double, an RBI and four strikeouts.
SS Gustavo Nunez is playing for Estrellas de Oriente. Nunez has played in five games and had three hits, three walks and a strikeout.
C Wilkin Castillo is playing for Leones del Escogido. Castillo played in one game in the past week and had a hit.

In the Venezuela League the Pirates have several players:
INF/OF Elvis Escobar and RHP Jhondaniel Medina are playing for Cardenales de Lara. Escobar didnt have an at bat in the past week but appeared in two games. Medina saw action in one game and strike out two in one inning of work.
LHP Zack Dodson and OF Gorkys Hernandez are playing for Caribes de Anzoategui. Hernandez is batting .279. He appeared in seven games in the past week. Hernandez had seven hits, including a double and a triple, three RBIs and five walks. Dodson had two starts in the past week and suffered losses in each. In his first outing, he gave up five runs on seven hits and four walks in 3.1 innings. In his other start he went three innings and allowed five runs on five hits, one walk and three strikeouts.
Catcher Francisco Diaz, INF Jose Osuna and OF Junior Sosa are playing for Bravos de Margarita. Diaz saw action in four games and had two hits. Osuna is now batting .375 after seeing action in eight games in the past week. Osuna had eleven hits, including two doubles and a home run. Sosa saw action in six games and had two hits.
RHP A.J. Morris is playing for Navegantes del Magallanes. Morris saw action in one game and picked up the win. He went three innings and allowed one run on two hits, one walk and and a strikeout.
RHP Julio Vivas are playing for Aguilas de Zulia. Vivas saw action in three games. In his first appearance, he went one inning and had a strikeout. In his second appearance, he went one inning and allowed a walk and a hit. In the third appeareance, he went 1.0 innings and allowed four runs on four hits and a strikeout.

Catcher Sebastian Valle is playing for Caneros de los Mochis. Valle saw action in just one game and had one hit.
RHP Felipe Gonzalez, RHP Luis Heredia, 1B Carlos Munoz and OF Harold Ramirez are playing for Venados de Mazatlan. Munoz saw action in six games. Munoz had three hits, including a home run and a double, four RBIs, three walks and two strikeouts. Ramirez saw action in three games and had four hits. Gonzalez didn’t have any appearances. Heredia had one appearance and gave up one run on two hits in two innings.
3B Dan Gamache is playing for Naranjeros de Hermosillo. He didnt see any action this week.
