More than six weeks have passed since the Pittsburgh Pirates made their wildly desperate offer to whichever lucky collector pulls Paul Skenes 1/1 Rookie Debut Patch Autograph card from the 2024 Topps Chrome Update. Still, the offer remains unclaimed.
In other words, the card is still hiding in an unopened pack somewhere ... or is it?
It’s entirely possible that someone pulled the card weeks ago, but has kept it quiet while considering the options. They could take the Pirates up on their offer of 30 years of season tickets, a meet-and-greet with Skenes himself, a pair of autographed jerseys and much more. They could put the card up for auction and possibly make seven figures. Or perhaps they could just hold onto the card and take the gamble that its value will appreciate over time.
Regardless, as far as we know, the Skenes Debut Patch is still out there. In the meantime, however, a number of other Skenes 1/1 cards have already been pulled – and one has already sold for six figures at auction.
Paul Skenes Superfractor Rookie Card Sells for $111K while 1/1 Debut Patch remains at large
The Skenes Autographed Superfractor – widely considered to be the second-most important Skenes card from the 2024 Topps Chrome Update behind the Debut Patch – sold for $111,532 Saturday at Goldin Auctions. It is the second-highest sale for a Skenes card; the highest-selling card, a 2023 Bowman Chrome Draft Prospects Autographs Superfractor, sold for $123,220 at Goldin in September.
Other Skenes 1/1 cards that have already been pulled include the 2024 Topps Now Paul Skenes Rookie of the Year 1/1 with Inscription, the 2024 Topps Gilded Collection Gold Autograph Superfractor – which is expected to sell for tens of thousands of dollars at the Fanatics Collect January Premier Auction – the 2024 Topps Pro Debut Autograph Superfractor and many more.
Maybe, just maybe, the MLB Debut Patch card will be next. In the meantime, though, collectors will continue their chase for that and whatever other high-end Skenes cards might still be out there.
