The Pittsburgh Pirates' hopes of avoiding the cellar in 2025 are currently dwindling. While they are 5-5 over their last 10 games, the Pirates remain 15.5 games back in the NL Central and 11.5 games out of a playoff spot thanks in large part to one of the worst offenses in the game of baseball. While it would be nice to get back on track against the Astros in the series finale, more wet weather rolling through has put those plans on pause.

Thursday's matchup looks like a fun one as Astros star pitcher Framber Valdez goes up against the Pirates' Mitch Keller who has been pretty consistent over his last five starts. Unfortunately, we will have to wait to see how that matchup plays out as we are officially in a rain delay after it became very apparent before the game that this one wasn't going to start on time.

**Update: 9:22 PM EST**

After what appears to be a rather contentious discussion between the two managers along with Astros GM Dana Brown, it looks like we are actually going to play this game tonight with an estimated start time of 10 PM.

**Update: 8:53 PM EST**

The odds that this game gets postponed seem to have gone up dramatically as we are over two hours into the delay with it raining with no end in sight. It looks like the two opposing managers are coming out to talk about their options which isn't usually a sign that baseball is getting played soon.

Pirates vs. Astros Rain Delay - 6/5: When will the game start?

So, there is a good bit of rain in the area and it doesn't seem to be particularly fast moving, but this is a getaway day for the Astros and this is the last day these two squads play against each other this season. There is going to have to be some weighing between forcing Houston to flight out really late at night or rescheduling a one-off game later in the season at the expense of a day off for both teams.

There is a chance this one gets banged, but the rescheduling problems and what seem to be a relatively scattered system of rain needs us to believe that they will try to get this game in one way or another. Does stink for the Astros, but shouldn't be a big deal for the Pirates who stay home to take on the Phillies next.

As more information becomes available as to an official start time and if there are any changes to the forecast that matters, we will update this post with that info. Hopefully this won't be a long wait, but waiting may be the best option no matter how long.
