The Pittsburgh Pirates are going to have their hands full this weekend as the Padres have come to town. The Pirates and Padres have been in a similar position lately as both have been treading water and the results this weekend will go a long way towards helping the winner get back on track. However, it appears as though Mother Nature has other plans.
Right as the game was set to begin, the official word came in and now we are in a rain delay.
Tonight’s game will begin in a delay.

We will share further updates as they develop.
Pirates vs. Padres Rain Delay 5/2: Here is what we know as to when the game will start
Obviously it is never great news to have to delay the start of the game especially for the fans at the game live who have to sit around waiting and trying to stay dry. A quick look at the radar suggests there will be weather in the area for around an hour, but that can obviously change and a lot depends on how quickly the grounds crew can get the field playable again.
Once this game does get started, it should be a good one as Mitch Keller takes the mound hoping to outduel the Padres' Dylan Cease who is off to an uncharacteristically rough start to the 2025 season. The Padres are a tough draw, but the first game of the series when they may still be jet-lagged and could be thrown for a loop by the weather may be Pittsburgh's best opportunity.
We will update this post once more information is known about when the game will start with 7:30 PM EST probably being a good time to at least be aware of any goings on.
**Update: 7:15 PM EST**
Looks like the wait for the start of this game won't be too bad as the Pirates just announced that the game will begin at 7:50 PM assuming the weather behaves as predicted.
