The weather has been an absolute menace for the Pittsburgh Pirates this week. Just yesterday, there was a one hour-ish delay before Pirates fans were treated to a bit of a collapse late in the game. While everyone would prefer to wash that memory away and get back on track on Saturday, Mother Nature once again is getting in the way.
Unfortunately, the odds that this rain delay will be as short as Friday's seem pretty bad. Nonethless, this is the hand we were dealt as Pirates-Padres is officially in a rain delay.
Due to inclement weather the start of tonight’s game has been delayed. We will provide more information as it becomes available.

Pirates vs. Padres Rain Delay, 5/3: Here is when the game is expected to start
There are a lot of games around MLB impacted by bad weather today, but it does seem like the Pirates will be able to play this game today. The odds diminish that rain will stick around as we get into the early evening and this being an afternoon game helps a good bit as a lengthy delay doesn't necessarily mean playing deep into the night. We could be waiting a while, but it just feels like we will get a game start time sometime this evening.
The Pirates just have to hope that this delay goes a lot better than Friday's did. Pittsburgh was holding serve with San Diego for the first half of the game or so, but the offense slowed as the game progressed whereas the Pirates bullpen could not keep the Padres contained. Having Bailey Falter on the mound isn't ideal for this goal especially based on how his last start went when his back gave him issues, but hopefully he bounces back well whenever this game is played.
This post will be updated as the delay goes on and information regarding the weather and when the game is expected to get started. For now, relax a bit and enjoy the weekend as we await word.
**UPDATE: 5:05 PM EST**
It doesn't look like this rain delay is going to be too bad. We will have to wait until we know for certain the weather is going to cooperate, but the current plan is to try and get this game started at 5:45 PM EST.
Estimated start time for Padres-Pirates is 2:45 p.m. PT
