Pittsburgh Pirates fans had to wait around for three hours on Thursday for the rain to pass only to see the team get routed by the score of 8-2 by the Astros. The hope on Friday was that the series opener against the Phillies would get started on time and go significantly better than that. Philly is always a tough matchup, but they do seem vulnerable, and the Pirates need all the help they can get. Sadly, the weather still does not want to cooperate.

The surprisingly effective Bailey Falter was supposed to take the mound at 6:40 p.m. ET against Joe Ross and the Phillies, who are coming off a disappointing series loss to the Blue Jays. Sadly, it continues to be very rainy in the area and the window to play failed to open in time to avoid a rain delay, which is now official.

**Update: 7:15 PM EST**

Well, that was certainly a lot better than Thursday's debacle. Barring an unforeseen change in the weather, the Pirates' game against the Phillies will start at 8 PM EST. All told, one hour and 20ish minutes on the rain delay.

Pirates vs. Phillies Rain Delay - 6/6: When will the game get started?

Similar to yesterday, the forecast seems to show a lot of scattered rain all over the place, and how long this delay lasts is going to come down to how things develop. That said, the weather forecast does seem to improve significantly within an hour. As we saw last night, the Pirates are going to fight to get this game played and avoid a doubleheader this weekend.

This situation is going to be fluid as the evening goes on, so keep an eye here as we provide updates as the team releases more information. One hopes that there won't be a confrontation like last night with the Astros. Yeah, what was that all about?
