Pittsburgh's North Shore isn't just home to the city's beloved MLB and NFL teams; it's also home to two of the best athletes in the world at what they do.

Those athletes, Pirates pitcher Paul Skenes and Steelers linebacker T.J. Watt, were both first-round draft picks – the former in 2023 (No. 1) and the latter in 2017 (No. 30). Both are widely regarded as generational talents and the faces of their respective franchises. In many ways, they are the faces of pro sports in the Steel City.

The two linked up for the first time on Thursday when Skenes visited Acrisure Stadium for a tour of the Steelers' facilities. Watt gifted his game-worn, signed No. 90 jersey to Skenes, who reciprocated the gesture by giving Watt his No. 30 Pirates jersey.

The pair then posed for a photo to commemorate the meeting between two stars at the top of their game.

It was a unique generational crossover between a fresh-faced rookie in Skenes and a seven-year NFL veteran in Watt. Skenes made his MLB debut just four months ago and earned what's likely to be his first of many All-Star nods, while the Watt has racked up four All-Pro and six Pro-Bowl honors in his career and is coming off a 2023 campaign in which he led the NFL with 19 sacks. Watt was also the NFL's Defensive Player of the Year in 2021, while Skenes is in the mix for the NL Rookie of the Year award in his debut season.

Paul Skenes meeting Steelers players, coaches is wholesome content for Pittsburgh fans

Both Skenes and Watt are bonafide superstars in their respective sports. Even Steelers All-Pro defensive tackle Cam Heyward recognized the sheer amount of greatness between the two athletes, commenting on the Steelers' social media post about the jersey swap that he "need[s] both jerseys."

Skenes met Heyward and several other Steelers players during his visit, including quarterbacks Justin Fields and Russell Wilson. He also met Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin, who spoke glowingly about Skenes' professionalism and approach to the game.

Even the typically stoic Skenes couldn't help but break into a smile after hearing Tomlin’s remarks. What a show of respect between two Pittsburgh greats.
