BREAKING: Vance Worley claimed from Waivers by the Orioles

The official twitter account for the Baltimore Orioles announced that former Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Vance Worley has been claimed off of waivers by the team.

Despite having a great run in 2014 as a fringe back-end starter,  Worley failed to impress in 2015 and spent a large chunk of time away from the big league club. He was designated for assignment on July 30th to make room for Joe Blanton.

Late last week we called for Worley to be non-tendered should things inch closer to arbitration without any claims made on him. From our piece last week:

"Vance Worley – probably the hardest player to put in this section of the list, but after a 0.0 WAR season that saw him spend a large chunk of it away from the big-league club, it feels like Worley has reached the end of the road with the Pirates. It spoke volumes that the club felt it needed to go out and get Joe Blanton to pitch long relief rather than roll the dice with Worley. Worley has still not put together two consecutive “good” seasons."

Here now is a look back at Vance Worley’s time as a Pirate:
