Michael Keaton is an Academy Award-nominated actor who is best known for his roles as the titular characters in films like "Batman" and "Beetlejuice." But among his fellow Pennsylvanians, he is also known for being a long-suffering Pittsburgh Pirates fan.

Keaton, a native of Corapolis, Pa., roughly 15 miles northwest of Pittsburgh, recently appeared as a guest on The Pat McAfee Show on ESPN. His response as soon as McAfee brought up his Pirates fandom said it all.

Keaton rolled his eyes, shook his head and covered his face with his arms before replying to McAfee, "I was hoping you wouldn't do this."

Like the vast majority of Pirates fans, Keaton is visibly fed up with the team's ownership and its complacency with being mediocre year after year. He expressed concern that the younger generation – including his seven-year-old grandson, who is currently a "giant" Pirates fan – will only ever know the team in its current state of mediocrity and eventually lose their childlike sense of hope that the Pirates will one day be a winning team again.

"At some point," Keaton said, "you go, 'f–– this.'" Spoken like a true Yinzer.

Keaton maintained that he is a fan of Pirates manager Derek Shelton, the players and the coaching staff. However, like many Pirates fans, he is adamant that team owner Bob Nutting should sell the team.

Being a fan of the Nutting-era Pirates is being a glutton for punishment. Nutting's refusal to spend on team payroll in order to try and make a playoff run – or win games in the regular season, for that matter – is infuriating to a city and a fanbase that has so much pride and passion for its sports teams.

Win or lose, Nutting still profits from his ownership of the team. As he sees it, it doesn't matter if the team wins games; so why would he spend more money if he doesn't need to? Meanwhile, fans are angry and fed up. Keaton called it "insulting."
