Konnor Griffin is the No. 1 prospect in all of baseball, and he has continued to prove why at every turn – even in the final days of the 2025 season.

The Pittsburgh Pirates' 2024 first-round draft pick put together a strong week at the plate with Double-A Altoona in their final series of the regular season last week, logging three multi-hit games. Griffin kicked off the week in a big way on Wednesday, going 3-for-5 with four RBI and a home run, and he did it with a special guest in the broadcast booth.

Griffin's father, Kevin, had stepped into the booth just as his son came up to bat in the top of the fifth inning. With a 3-1 count, Griffin launched an opposite-field homer that left the ballpark to give Altoona a 2-0 lead over Erie. It was his 21st home run of the season, and his fifth at Double-A.

"I might stay up here the whole game," Griffin's dad quipped following the blast.

Pirates prospect Konnor Griffin's meteoric rise has fans excited for the future

Griffin's 2025 regular season was certainly one for the ages. In just six months, he went from being a top-100 prospect to the consensus No. 1 farmhand in all of baseball, all while making his rapid ascent through Pittsburgh's system – and he did it all at just 19 years old.

Griffin started the year at Single-A Bradenton, where he racked up 70 hits in 50 games with nine homers, 36 RBI and 26 stolen bases. In June, was promoted to High-A Greensboro and earned South Atlantic League Player of the Week honors in his first week with the club after hitting .407 with 11 hits, 10 runs scored, two homers, eight RBI and six stolen bases in that span.

In July, Griffin represented the Pirates alongside Esmerlyn Valdez at the MLB All-Star Futures Game, just weeks before he was announced as the No. 1 prospect in all of baseball according to MLB Pipeline. At the time, he had a slash line of .319/.422/.487 with Greensboro – and, of course, he didn't stop there.

Griffin was promoted to Double-A Altoona on Aug. 18 and once again proved up for the challenge of a higher level. He finished the season with a .337/.418/.542 slash line through 21 games at Altoona. Across all three levels of the Pirates' system, Griffin racked up 117 runs, 161 hits, 21 home runs, 94 RBI and 65 stolen bases in a monster first season.

Again, Griffin is only 19 and was just drafted out of high school last year – but if he continues producing at such a high level, a Major League debut in 2026 is hardly out of the question. In the meantime, he'll be helping Altoona compete for an Eastern League title as Pirates fans dream of playoff baseball one day returning to Pittsburgh.
